Outdoor portraits with 4x5 and Monolight

I am doing a portraiture project where I will take a number of images in "shady" outdoor environment. For this project, I am using 4x5 and 150 and 210mm lens on color films.

I have used strobes in studio setting before but only with a Leica and dSLR so far.

This thread talks about using monolights and 4x5 in studio setting:

Anyone has advice on using monolights in outdoor setting as fill lights with 4x5?

Thanks.

You might have to gel the flash to match the color temp if you are shooting in deep shade.

Pay attention to bellows extension, but you'd be doing that whether or not you added fill. Buy some Fuji instant film before it's all gone for tests and/or handouts.

hi

your link doesn't work ...

do you have a flash meter ?

what i do is do an ambient meter reading, and a flash reading
and match the flash to the ambient light.
you might consider a reflector as well to bounce the light back on your model.

have fun!

I miss-read this thread title as "Outdoor portraits with 4x5 and Moonlight" and thought what an interesting idea.

What do you mean when you say pay attention to the bellows setting?

Thanks all. Everything will be on tripod, and I have a big soft box for my studio strobes. I will need to get battery powered lights but hopefully can use the softbox.

Yes, I (will) have a flash meter.
