OS X Mavericks - Epson Scan dead....

Just got the new Apple OS X Mavericks and now my Epson scan software doesn't work...

The site says "update available soon" when I checked the Epson support but soon is relative for this kind of stuff

What do I do? Lol

This is also a warming to others...

When I got my iMac with Mountain I had a similar situation. I called Epson tech support and they directed me to download a driver from Apple. It was the correct driver and worked. Call Epson or search the Apple site for driver downloads.

Already did, as I said in my post the driver just isn't available yet.

I have silverfast I just don't like it, I have a system so not buying another one, this was more just a bitch/warning to others who use it. I'll update when they come out with an update :/

In the mean time I'll try silverfast8 again for the heck of it, but it never seems to work... Lol

Wow it runs on my iPhone?

Is this the other scanning software that is the competitor to SilverFast?

I didn't want to spend more money if I didn't have to, I've perfected using the Epson Scan software and I don't want to have to spend hours learning a new software's quirks. I spent 5 days trying to make SilverFast even scan... It was frustrating ....

Vue scan is $75.0 for lifetime upgrades, but it is full to the brim w/ quirks. I wouldn't use any other software for scanning.

Hah! Well I know your name by reputation so I'll take your recommendation seriously.

Seems they all have quirks. Apparently even with the quirks I hear many good things.

No idea how well the iOS version works. I don't have a scanner that it supports.

I find the best way to use Vuescan is to just have it do raw scans, but to apply the IR cleaning if using color film. I've never come to love its interface or its film type options. I do all the rest of the corrections in Photoshop. But I do love that it lets me use older scanners that don't have drivers on the latest OS. Also if you use the RAW scan feature you can use that file as the source for subsequent scans so you can try lots of options without waiting for the hardware. All in all I've gotten my money's worth out of my purchase (about 10 years ago).

My sentiments as well. Funky UI, but you can save settings once you nail them. IR Cleaning on my Nikon 8000 is great as are multi sample, multi exposure and saving to a DNG/Raw file (zero CC). The Raw file is not as "raw" as what you get from your DSLR, but it serves two purposes:1) It allows/forces you to keep a record of the original untouched scan and 2) gives you the opportunity to make use of Adobe's Camera Raw utility -- for me that has become a must in my workflow.

What we need now is a printer utility that allows us to use printers that are no longer supported by an OS.

Wait the Nikon let's you save as RAW or the Viewscan does?

I THINK my TIFF file is supposed to contain the RAW info, but not sure if epson scan actually imprints that into or not (I know there are normal TIFFs and "smart" RAW TIFFs just not sure which it is lol

The scanners by themselves can't save files. They only follow the commands of the driving software to move and output lines of data. So Vuescan drives the scanner and can output the raw (linear) data from the CCD to a file. This can be considered a RAW file, but since the scanners aren't Bayer devices it's not exactly the same as RAW from a normal DSLR. Vuescan can output a RAW file from any scanner.

EpsonScan (again, software that drives the scanner) can also give you an unprocessed file in TIFF format. I'm not sure if the CameraRAW software can read this or not. I process it Photoshop.

Thanks, I use Lightroom, I would like to think the data is there. Wish I could get confirmation.

I daresay you know it by now, but Epson has updated EpsonScan for use with Mavericks and the new version works fine. I use VueScan too and agree that it is quirky, but can be excellent. Now a really quirky bit of scanning software is FlexColor which I have to use with the 848.

Everyone is different with this. I have played a bit with both Silverfast and Vuescan and didn't care for either in comparison to Epson Scan. Everything I needed to do could be done in Epson Scan and it seemed much easier than the other two. Just didn't make sense to spend time learning either when I am just barely learning to swim with CS6.

Hmm strange, maybe you have it already installed and don't realize it, hah! It just seemed like it was a normal security update since the name wasn't feline cat related and it turns out it was the whole OS! Kind if caught me off guard.
