I have this really weird error while scanning Orwo Wolfen NP100 B&W film in Nikon Coolscan V with the SA-21 auto feeder. As always, I cut the film into 6 frame strips and feed into SA-21. The NP100 strip can be fed into SA-21, but when I start scanning, this error pops out. And the film gets stuck inside the feeder. When I power down and power up the scanner again, the film strip does eject automatically during the scanner bootup process.
It seems to be very reproduceable, and this error only occurs to Orwo/Wolfen NP100 film. I processed three rolls of film in one tank (Orwo NP100, Orwo UN54, and Ilford Pan F), and the other two rolls of film have none of the same problem. I have never had this problem before this NP100 roll, and no problem since with other film (6 rolls of C41 or B&W).
I'm wondering if the Orwo NP100 film is:
- Especially slippery?
- Have a different base color/reflection that messes up with the three optical sensors inside SA-21 feeder?
- Degradation of SA-21 and its rollers/sensors?
I don't know if any of you have encountered similar problems with Nikon CoolScan (SA-21) and particular type of film?
In the end, I have to scan this particular NP100 roll in my Epson V700 flatbed.
