ORWO (ORiginal WOlfen) used to be the Eastgerman film manufacturer in the town of Wolfen. It pretty much supplied most of the easten block with film material.
The colour films were awkful to the exteme, but the B&W films (also way more available then their colour brethren) were of rather decent nature (even got some very good reviews in the
HPBooks "Photographic Materials and Processes" ). ORWO B&W films are good 'ol classic emulsions.
After the wall came down in 89, production went to pretty much zero. It didn't help that AGFA got commisioned by the Treuhand to put together a report/study to see if the company could be made profitable in a western business climate (AGFA just saw an unwanted competition, and a good way to kill it with their study). Anyways, filmotec.de took over a few years after and is still in business
http://www.filmotec.de/English_Site/english_site.html. Some of the new ORWO films are apparently repacked ILFORD's.
But since you are refering to the NP range, I would think it's one of their old emulsions. Here's a chart which might be of some help

If my memory serves me well, I believe that I read somewhere (back in the 90s) that some of the manufacturing equipment went to the Czec republic (Foma?).
If you need someone to translate those german info into english, let me know (i am of east german origin LOL ). I might even be able to scan you some of the pages from the HPBook.
Cheers,
Chris
