I saw AgX's comment in a Feedback thread about a (I assume joke) suggestion of microfilming old threads to preserve them, and this has led to me considering options for a possibly questionable art project.

The goal is to take a section of digital data, run it through software I write to package it up in a relatively raw form, and then map those packets to sections of a digital image - Sort of the same way as those "photo collage creates a photo" things work. The final image would then be a piece of art that could be displayed on its own, but also fully recoverable digital data in an otherwise fairly straightforward format.

My initial thought was to build a rig that would let me photograph a 4k screen onto a masked section of whatever highest resolution 4x5 film that is still readily available, and figure out how tightly packed I could actually manage data, but I'm guessing there are probably other options to explore that could work better.

Any thoughts? My initial lunch break googling hasn't come up with any solid leads for further research.
