Opinions on the Hasselblad 120mm Makro (Macro!) Lens

Yeah, I almost revived an old Nikkormat thread. Still might.

Maybe the new APUG software can indicate these old threads somehow, such as by yellowing the background color and making the text and ad colors fade.

Except the lenses are a whole lot cheaper now. Always hated the 50 n 150. Instead using the 60, 80, 100, 120, n 250 SA. Sold the SA last year because I never used it. My favorite a Blad lens and is the 38 Biogon on the SWC. Used the 120 on the focusing tube.

I have many of the Hasselblad lenses. Unless you are going to do a lot of macro work skip the 120 mm lens and buy close up rings.

I have the CF SWC [38mm lens mit camera], the CF 50mm lens, the CF 80mm lens, the CF 150mm lens, the CF 250mm lens and the 2X extender.

I recommend the the 50mm lens, the 80mm lens, the 150mm lens, the 250mm lens OR 50mm lens, the 100mm lens, the 150mm lens, the 250mm lens as there is enough change between the lenses without being too close together. I do not shoot portraits so the 150 mm lens is my least used lens of the group.

what did you hate about the 50 and150.They are both excellent in my opinion,especially the 150 is just right for portraits even though,the 180 is sharper and gets you closerbut, thetre really is no substitute for the 50mmwhen t comes to landscapes.

I do not hate the 50mm lens. I have and use the 50mm lens and use it. I think that 60mm lens is too close to the 80mm. I do not shoot portraits so that I do not use the 150mm very often.

Alright, this is an old thread. Last time I got here I was checking what people think of this baby. Then I went ahead, bought the lens... and took hit of the wife’s stinging words from the bank balance. I initially used it, handheld, with my hassy. It was soo tricky and takes a lot of thinking to get it to work properly because its a longer focus lens and it needs to eat a lot of light. (if ur a landscape dude/use tripod, this does not apply to you).

Then I got a strobe and a giant octabox (7feet). It took me a while to get all of this setup. Sneakilly bought it slowly so the wife doesn’t feel it.

The verdict? Oh boy, this lens knows how to sing! Whoever engineered this beast, thank you! I can now shoot stuff that is a different class level. I whacked this thing on a 35mm body also and it was just insane. I had the Zeiss Otis 85mm ($1700), it was sharp, but it can’t compete with the 120mm quality wise.

I wonder what you find tricky to use with this lens - is it the focal length itself?
From an aperture point of view, it does not need more light than others in the Hassy lineup (or do you have the older f/5.6 version?) unless of course you get close - but then the same applies to any lens not just the 120.
The 120 is one of my most used lenses, even for walk around, portraits etc. I like its ability to go closer without needing an extension ring, contrarily to e.g. the 150.

i use them all... all good... 38, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150 & 250...

For closeup work I would consider the 135mm lens with the variable focus tube.
