Someone got me interested in the Agfa DuoScan 1200-Arcus-ArcusII-Arcus Plus family of SCSI scanners, but they are massive & shipping may be risky as well as costly. I think this uses a glassless frame and tray .

I then saw an Agfa SnapScan 1236 which scans thru glass, but is very light and USB.

The SnapScan is the cheapest and easiest to get running (no SCSI board to buy).

I actually only need opinions on the 1236 performance for negs. The DuoScan series is the better of the two, but the easy way out out is tempting.

Thanks

I only know the Duoscan...

There are glassless holders for 35mm, MF and 4x5". Other sizes are scanned on glass (9x12cm, polaroid T55, 5x7", 8x10"). It may not be the fastest film scanner, nor the best in terms of resolution (35mm looks like sh*t). But it's cheap, even adding in the cost of a SCSI card.
