Openning 35mm Tri-x 400 (hard work)

Why is it so hard to open it. I usually do it very easy with other brands, but I shot 2 rolls of Tri-x, the first one was hard to open but after a while I manage to open it. But the second one doesn't open ar all.

It is just me or it is harder with Tri-x?

Open? You mean pop off the top of the cassette? They're very well crimped, that's why. You don't really have to do it, you can open the lips of the cassette with your fingers and extract the roll, or remove the top of the cassette afterwards.

But god, it was too well crimped. It was so hard that my hands got wet. I will have to wait a bit to load on my plastic tank.

Use a bottle opener - called a crown cap remover around these parts. I remove the cap gently, working in sequence around the edge, so I can reload from 100' rolls.

If you have to open many cassettes there is a handy device. It is a U shaped piece of metal that an be screwed to a wall or darkroom counter. You just slide the end of the cassette in the slot and pull down. But a "church key" works very well too. They were given out free by liquor stores in the days before twist off bottles and tabless cans. I needed one for the kitchen and had a devil of a time finding one in the grocery store. Such is progress.

I never open the film cartridge. Bought a film leader retriever for 10 bucks a long time ago and just pull it out of the cartridge as I put it on the reel. Never had any issues with that.

This does not work for some of the cassettes I have tried.
I also have some difficult moments opening cassettes.
One of the think solves the problem that to leave a leader out upon spooling.

me too, bottle opener quick and easy. sometimes
they really attach the tops so it is nearly impossible to remove them.
i'd rather have that, than the cassette drop or open accidentally exposing all my film !
