You know the drill by now :D:D:D

If fuzzy pictures turn you OFF you decidedly should NOT go have a look at my latest additions to my never ending BOKEH sagas!

A slight disclaimer: My sweet wife bought me a new Samsung 19" LCD monitor and the damn thing is so bright I'm about to go blind! It may have affected my scans also. Let me know if the pics look dingy and dark.

A 5 minute read but definitely something different!

Lemme hear your thoughts. Good or bad. I've got broad shoulders. I happen to think there are some winners though.

Jim, you truly get my creative juices flowing and I just love your B&W jewels....in fact I finally got your 3 contact prints you sent me last summer framed and hanging in the family room. Thanks again and keep 'em coming!
Happy New Year! Jon

They can't all be keepers, but until one comes along with better credentials I'd maybe loan this one to my friend and retain the title.

I love the images!

Hi Charlie. The chugger is the motive power to the little 807 caboose photo I sent you. I have a full set of 4 wheel freights that wobble along behind that little 258.

Holy Crap Jim. That camera shot is something that I would put in my studio or office. One of those shots that other artists like for themselves. Maybe you should put it in the APUG Gallery...

Alan.

ps. I think I'm goind to send your lens boards after the weekend. My alt printing is coming along very slowly and I don't want to make you wait any longer by sending them together

Jim,

I would like to have a dig through your junk box sometime! Seriously, anything you don't think you will have time to test...

As to the images, the bokeh in "Ives Locy 1" makes for a cool feel of motion to me. Also, I like the period "Baja Fresh" cup next to the blender.

Matt

P.S. do I recognize that lensboard?

You know, Jim, you keep telling us that these lenses take wonderful pictures - and you show us magical images- but I'm betting you could come up with some visual magic using a couple of magnifying glasses and a cardboard tube. I've got a few of these old brassies as well and they just don't dance as well for me. Must be something in the Nevada water - couldn't be talent or anything, could it?

Wonderful shots.

I'm envious - I have one Petzval lens, and that's missing the negative element in the rear group:sad:

On the other hand I have Aplanats in every conceivable focal length up to about 600mm, so it isn't all that bad.

I KNOW!!! You outbid me most of the time! For that, I'm thankful.

To the rest; You say such lovely things. Thanks always for the encouragement. I'll keep on posting fuzzy photos and maybe a sharp one once in a while.

Windfall's for 2006: I lucked onto "Leaves of Grass". The one E. Weston illustrated in 1941. $5!!! It was a long wait, but what a visual feast! And I re-discovered Kinsey's NW Locomotive portraits. Also a feast, and a reminder how wonderful crisp 11X14 contact prints were and are.

Also ran...

Actually, IIRC, I believe I picked up my first 1870s Dallmeyer 3A from ineffablething early last year and then bought another later 3A off eBay when Jim was visiting his daughter out east one week. Gotta time these things correctly. "While the cat's away..."

Lovely portraits BTW in your gallery ineffablething. Done with a Darlot Petzval and a Wolly Versar. That Versar is surprisingly swirly for a non-Petzval.

What's your favorite lens of the 40?

The Versar's are nice. A best-kept secret,if you will. I have a quite a few special lenses, each of them unique in signature and potential. Too many in fact. Some of them will be off to the highest bidder in the next few weeks. Maybe a Versar or two. I have way too many of these things now, and some sit on a shelf, shown no regard for months at a time.
