My bad - I didn't see the sub-category it was in when I posted, since I saw it in the New Posts list, and didn't come to it through the sub-forum list. To go back on-topic, then it would be my Contax G1 with 45mm F2 lens, and for film, I'd stick to Kodak T400 CN.

Holy Smoke! Pretty touchy around here....OK, throw the 4X5 in the sinkhole and pull out either the Nikkormat or the FM and the 50mm f1.4. Might wanna grab a loupe while you're down there

Don't fret over it. Remember that some people are not internet/community forum savvy and most don't look at the sub-forum the post is under. A lot of the talk on APUG in general is LF directed, so people assume things. Plus APUGers tend go a little astray anyway.

I certainly will give this a try with my Nikon F4. I don't have any fixed lenses anymore, but I have an AF-S 17-35mm f2.8D zoom. I haven't used this lens in a long while. I promise to keep it at the far end - say 17mm for the next 30 days.

Yes, and so do I. Tonight I'll be taking a Voigtländer Vito II with me to photograph the fireworks. But it is still not the first camera I would pull out of the sinkhole...

One and One Challenge

Good thing this is in the 35mm forum. It's the only format I've ever used. I will take you up on the challenge. Guess I'll use a Konica (T3 or T4 -- to be decided), and either a Hexanon 50 1.4 or Tamron 35-80 SP (my all time favorite lens). I'll shoot 100 ASA Fujichrome only for this project. If it turns out that I deem any worthy of a peek, I'll scan them on my old Nikon LS-1000 slide scanner (pardon me for being a bit behind the times, but that scanner does just fine).

I joined APUG earlier this year as a member and finally decided to subscribe. This is my first post, and I hope it makes it to this thread. I'm not exactly sure of what I'm doing.

Thanks for posting the challenge. May 2007 be a good year for all APUG'ers.

Well, I was thinking about this thread and I find that i shoot quite a lot with just one camera and one lens. I might even get out of the house with 2 cameras and a few lenses, but once i start shooting with a pair, most of the times I won't stop for swapping camera or lens. I just got the F3HP and i am already feeling very comfortable with her and a 35mm 2.8. The FM2n almost always as 50 1.4 attached to her. And the FE2 goes along very well with a 24 2.8.
The other lens that goes around and ends up, sometimes, swapping with any of them is the 105 2.5

With the F3HP now, I'm starting to guess that the FE2 is going to stay at home more often :S

sorry for drifting a bit away from the topic, but it was it that made my thoughts drift to this

If everything went down the sinkhole I'd take it as a sign from God to change my life and then would probably take up a paintbrush.

Actually this idea would be more interesting if all chose one focal length and any body. At least then it would allow us to see other compositions and approaches based on a common denominator. 35mm film unto itself is not definitive enough.

My pick of the ones I own: Canon FTbn with a 28mm.
My pick of one that I would like to own: Leica M6 with 35mm

Welcome to APUG! I'm sure we will all like to see your final results, also don't forget to tell us about the most challenging aspect of having to use one camera/one lens combo! I think the spirit of this challenge is to see what images we are capable of creating with the camera or technology we currently possess. It's all about the creative mind behind the lens.

I usually only use one camera and one lens, a Contax G2 with the 45mm f2 lens, but I dropped the camera and broke the lens earlier this month and have been using only the 35mm f2 since then - as a side note, I've never really understood why the 35mm lens got picked on the most among the Contax G line of lenses. What would challenge me is to commit to using only the 90mm f2.8 for a month - perhaps I'll give it a try!

I am glad to see the thread is m/l back on topic.

My problem, quite frankly is, I have too darned many 35mm camera/lens combos to be able to decide!

First off, are we talking SLR or RF?

Assuming I can keep one of each it makes life a little easier.

I'll keep my CV Bessa R2S with the classic Nikkor 5.0cm/f1.4 for RF. Hate to admit it - but it's modern viewfinder far surpasses that of my 50+ y.o. Nikon S2.

For SLR, I'll keep my F3 but with my Nikkor AF 24-80mm?/f2.8 zoom (set in manual mode).

[Yes, I know the F3 will need a couple of LR/SR44 batteries unless I'm willing to settle for 1/80 shutter speed!]

If I have to walk away with just one, it would be my dad's Leica M3 with Collapsable Summicron.

If it was a SLR it would be my dad's early Nikon F with 50 F1.4 lens.

With three locations to choose from - I'll do this from Copake where I have a F3 body and where the lens I chose is at.

I'm in Tucson through Wednesday - so I'll start my 30 days on Saturday when I'm back in upstate NY.

My first choice for a 35mm camera and lens would be my Leica R8 and 35mm f2.0 Summicron lens if weight and size were not an issue. If I needed something with small size and would operate without a battery, I would use my Leica R4SP and my 35mm f2.0 Summicron. If I needed tiny, I would opt for my Rollei 35S with 40mm f4.0 Sonnar.

Well -If I wasn't in the 35mm forum I would choose my #8 cirkuit outfit. That awy I could shoot 8" by whatever panoramics, or shoot 6.5 x 8.5 negs with the triple convertible 12-19-25 lense. But since I am I'll choose my roundshot 35 pan camera, which shoots nine inch long 360 pans on 35mm film with a 35mm lense.

Well, for me it is a quite easy decission: Nikon F4s with 50/1.4 AIs. The only problem would be the film, either FP4+ or Rollei Retro 400 @ EI 200.

My Nikon F2 with MD1 motor drive, Nikkor 35mm f1.4 lens, and a Vivitar 283 flash would not only meet 80% of my needs for 30 days but it would also be a very reliable combo.
