I have been developing an interest in doing my own C-41 and RA-4 processing. Since it may be a few days before I am able to get to the library, does anyone know of any basic online guides to RA-4 printing? I tried using Google, but since I can't figure out how to exclude the $ sign from searches I only get ads for books and labs.

Justin,
If we can get our schedules to meet and you would like to, I can teach you how to do both in two afternoon sessions. Drop me a PM if you're interested. It isn't hard.

Some light reading while you schedule your sessions:

http://photo.net/learn/darkroom/color-darkroom (This one is a bit confusing, but a lot of information is there.)

The next link (Kodak Endura paper) has a cryptic explanation for finding the correct color balance when printing.

Here is a nice guide and worth the $5 download fee (on the honor system no less!).

If you join the Dead Link Removed you can find a tutorial/manual in the files section entitled "Colour Enlarging Without Tears." It's intended for users of the Philips PCS line of enlargers, but despite the hype about the Tri-One light source, the basic procedure is the same for conventional subtractive enlargers. Also, this guide was written before the days of RA-4, so the details of the chemical steps are different. For that, you're best off following the instructions of the manufacturer, since details can vary slightly from one brand to another, even with the current crop of chemicals. If you don't want to join the Yahoo group, PM me and I can e-mail you a copy of the file (it's about 1.5MB in size).

Kodak also publishes a complete color dataguide that contains a tutorial with color pictures and all kinds of examples. They have a rather recent edition out there.
