At my junior high we got to use a 4x5 Royal mounted on a special stand. We used Ortho film to copy our foolish pictures taken with an old twin lens reflex. We were in junior high so the pictures were foolish. I remember you had to expose the Ortho film to Amber light for one minute. I have no idea why. Then the copy negative was placed on an aluminum photo offset printing plate and exposed. Voila, foolish pictures in the school newspaper.
I really think this is what kindled my interest in photography.
I always aspired to own an 8x10 enlarger. When I finally obtained one and started using one, I realized how difficult it was, and how much easier my 4x5 enlarger was to use.
