I posted this over on the LFPF this morning but haven't gotten a response yet so thought I'd try here. sometimes the focus knob on my 4550 XLG won't stay where it is positioned for sharp focus. Gravity starts working on it and the lens creeps downward. Any users of this enlarger encountered this before and if so, how did you fix it? I'm looking for a set screw or something that may need tightening but I don't see one........thanks.
You need to tighten the focus. Mine was doing the same a couple years ago. The mechanism works on friction. I can't remember exactly which ones do it, but there are screws right behind the focus knob. I think the two in the middle do the trick and the others hold the plate on, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks, I saw those and they appeared to be just regular structural screws and I was reluctant to start messing with them. I found that It's the very bottom one that is the one that tightens up the friction............thanks a bunch!
