Omega d series

i recently purchased an omega D2 4x5 enlarger off ebay for $49.50, granted shipping was over $60. i was wondering what is the difference between the D2 and D5 enlargers, and are the negative carriers interchangable? i read somewhere that the only difference lies in production date and the d5 having a geared column.

i appreciate any and all information provided.
