It's a perfectly good enlarger, and the paper safe that is built in the baseboard is more than handy. It should be able to do 11x14 on the baseboard, and larger if you screw it into a counter top or table, and project it on an easel laid on the floor. I'm not sure why people say its not a good enlarger. For all practical purposes, an enlarger that is aligned correctly is as good as the lens you have in it. Just like a camera. $30 w/ a negative carrier is a very fair price. Very simple to align it yourself if necessary, which I doubt it will need.
Another plus for your enlarger is that it doesn't need lens boards, you just screw that 50 2.8 Nikkor right into it. It's simple to make negative carriers from mat board too. I sold my C700 and D2 (the D2 is great for big enlargements if you have the XL model) and bought a Durst in a false sense of economy. I hate the thing, even though everyone will tell you how great Durst enlargers are. The lens boards are very expensive, many of them have ridiculously small 25mm threads, you have to use an Ouija board and a decoder ring to figure out which lens board goes w/ which lens on which enlarger (and which board w/ which lens gives you which print sizes), and the normal neg carriers have glass, so there's not only the 2 sides of the negative to worry about w/ the dust, there's both sides of the glass as well.
True, Dursts are sturdy, but I don't bang on the side of the enlarger when I print, so never had any problems w/ the C700. I'd trade you this baby for yours any day.
