Hey! I'm working on setting up a Super Chromega C760 Dichro enlarger that I received from a good friend around a year ago. I've got a recessed lens board, but I'm missing the flat one. I'm going to be printing mainly 6x7 negs, and if I'm not mistaken, the flat lens board is for the longer lens and the recessed board is for the 50mm? Would anyone be able to let me know how necessary the flat lens board is for my setup? Thanks!
You are correct that a flat lensboard is what you need for medium format. Have not used this enlarger in a while but I doubt the recessed lensboard will work with an 80mm lens...but there is no harm in trying it. BTW I hate the plastic lensboards.
You can make a quite serviceable lens board from heavy stiff cardboard. You can glue up layers of thinner board to get to the thickness you want. Cutting the holes in the thinner sheets before gluing them can be easier. Then finish off with a file and/or sandpaper. Paint/magic-marker it black and then lacquer it and it can last years.
