OM Zuiko lenses on digital bodies.

Hi folks,

I'm a newbie to this site, so I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but here it is. As a mainly analogue user I have many OM Zuiko lenses. I know an adapter is available to allow these lenses to be used on the 4/3rds. bodies, but then there's micro 4/3rds. Frankly, I'm lost. Can you believe I was once in the trade? My real question (the answer which I don't seem to be able to find anywhere) is, what, if any, facilities are lost.

I'm using my set of Zuiko lenses on a Sony Nex, adapters for MFT are even more common than that (at least on ebay). You lose out on auto aperture (it is always stopped down to what you select on your aperture ring), and that's about it. You need to keep in mind that since the MFT sensor is about quarter the size of a 35mm film frame, your field of view will be quite a bit narrower. Think "50mm lens for 135 format -> 100mm lens on MFT".

I am using a Zuiko 40-150 on my OMD-Em5 with an adaptor, no problems. With the OMD sensor it is a X2 factor. so it becomes 80-300.

The OMD is a micro 4/3.

Thanks folks, that almost answers the question. But what about the exposure? Would I need to focus at full aperture and then stop down to my chosen aperture to check the shutter speed, I think I might, in which case, for my purpose, would probably take too long.

sorry, i don't remember, if i have time tomorrow I will give it a test run. However, I am leaving the country on sunday so my time schedule is a bit tight.

Off the top of my head I don't remember making any special changes, but then...........it has been awhile.

I tested my 40-150 with an adapter on the OMD, it auto focused from screen and viewfinder, also made the correct exposures. Tested in S and A modes.

Can't speak for any other lens as the rest are all micro lens, except for a Zeiss 50 with Nikor mount which is due to it's nature always manual.

Here's a quick shot I made with my Fujifilm X-E1 and Olympus Zuiko 28mm/f3.5. As others have said, you'll only be able to shoot in aperture priority or fully manual, and focusing may be a bit tricky on smaller viewfinders. If you have an electronic viewfinder you may be able to focus with the aperture stopped down if the evf boosts light levels in the finder, otherwise focus wide open and then stop down to the desired f-stop.
