OM-4 continuous beep and other issues

New member here, my name is Camilla. I've had an OM-4 for the past six years, using it only occasionally for the last four. I'm trying to my camera up and running again and I've run into some issues. I last used the camera six months ago. Upon putting new batteries and screwing them in I get a continuous beeping sound, like the camera is on battery check/reset. Additionally, when I pressed the shutter, it closed and it doesn't seem to be connected to the inner mechanism. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Hoping it's something I can fix/ get fixed.

I have had the OM4Ti since it came out, still use it. I think it should not be different form the OM4.

Are you sure to have the right batteries? Is the battery check lever in its normal position: on auto? I mean not pushed up to battery check? I would also move the beep regulator lever towards the lens (that sits on top of the battery light check.

If all that is ok, take out the batteries, put the shutter speed on the red 60 (you have to unlock while doing that: small push button below-left of the lens . . . it says unlock). If then you can make your camera shoot and the mirror acts like normal, you may have also gotten rid of something resulting in a bad contact

Why do you say you are screwing in the batteries? Isn't it more dropping them in and than screwing back the battery cover? Sorry, just making sure . . .

What do you mean by the beep regulator lever? I'm confused about that. I was able to reset the shutter by bringing the camera to 60.
When I put the batteries back in, they continue to beep while on manual, auto, or battery check. If I go back to a higher shutter speed, the shutter stays down again. I'm guessing it might be a circuit issue?

You can turn on, or off, the sound with the tiny lever that sits on top of the round battery check light. This lever is hardly visible and some never knew it exists. It could be that this lever is causing your problem and perhaps, by moving it from left to right a couple of times, you solve your problem. Just in case you don't know: when face the front of the camera, the light sits under the OM-4 letters left of the lens

If that's not the cause, I would take it to a good photoshop before finding a repairer. Perhaps the batteries are the problem

Does your camera shoot and transport normally at the mechanical 60? I have had several problems with two OM4Ti bodies, which I believe to be caused by severe humidity.

Yeah gotta keep them dry! Best thing I ever did was buy a dry cabinet. I have had this beeping problem with several 4Ti's and had some repaired. Prob dust or moisture in that little fiddly ring around the red light mentioned. Move it around, spray some contact cla=eaner carefully around it and then dry it fast with air. Make sure batteries are in the right way around also. sometimes the batteries come with a slight layer of oil on them - clean well. Yes, change the shutter ring settings and fire it on manual a few times will help.
