There is a slight difference in the depth of field when both cameras are used at maximum aperture, the XA having slightly shallower depth of field. There may be other differences such as sharpness in the corners, shading in the corners, and geometrical distortion, these are sometimes visible. I would expect the XA to be superior to the XA2.
The focus lever is connected to a small lever below that operates a sliding part below the lens. This can be seen on the outside of the camera below the lens. When the camera case is closed this sliding part automatically moves the focus lever to give the middle setting. It is possible some "residue" or 'dirt" has entered the opening of the slide below the lens and is causing stiff movement, if this is the case cleaning out the slide might restore normal operation?
