I know that the XA has a 2.8 aperture while the XA 2 is equipped with a 3.5 but is there a visible difference in image quality?

While we at it, my the zone focus lever of my XA2 is sluggish/hard to move - any advice? :D
Thanks!

There is a slight difference in the depth of field when both cameras are used at maximum aperture, the XA having slightly shallower depth of field. There may be other differences such as sharpness in the corners, shading in the corners, and geometrical distortion, these are sometimes visible. I would expect the XA to be superior to the XA2.

The focus lever is connected to a small lever below that operates a sliding part below the lens. This can be seen on the outside of the camera below the lens. When the camera case is closed this sliding part automatically moves the focus lever to give the middle setting. It is possible some "residue" or 'dirt" has entered the opening of the slide below the lens and is causing stiff movement, if this is the case cleaning out the slide might restore normal operation?

I do not see any dirt there, i wish i had a plan of the camera so i could open it up and see it for myself. Ahh

Edit: nevermind, i just saw a repair manual for the XA and i wouldnt be able to fix it anyhow, haha..looks complicated as hell

My XA2 has always produced soft images. I have an XA, but haven't tried it yet.

While there is certainly a difference in the lens designs I always been very pleased with the images from all the XA's. My favorite is the XA1 with the selenium meter and f4 Tessar type lens. Although this lovely successor to the Trip is much maligned, it has never failed me and has produced some great pictures.

I got my Olympus XA for $1.50 at a local thrift store. Overall, the images are pretty sharp. I was printing some negatives over the weekend in my darkroom and one neg had a soft patch. I don't know if it's lint on the lens from carrying the camera in my pocket. But overall, I'm very happy with my XA. It was my analog camera of choice when I went to Turkey and Greece 2 summers ago.
