I know that the shutter speed of the XA varies by 2 things. The resistance value of the Cds cell and the ASA setting. If someone could replace the Cds cell with a fix resistor so that the shutter speed is 1/60 when the ASA is set at 100. Doing so I would ended up with a full manual camera with shutter speed adjustable from 1/15 to 1/500 and that is much more useful to me than the aperture priority.

I don't think this will work. The Cds cell sits behind what is effectively a graduated neutral density filter. Changing the ASA setting shifts the cell's position under that filter. So, effectively the shutter speed is directly determined only by the resistance of the Cds cell. Changing the ASA or the aperture affects the amount of light hitting the cell.

Yup you're right! I haven't look at the XA repair manual for too long.
