What would be the advantage to that.?

Because the OM-1 takes batteries that don't exist anymore. Some cameras that take batteries from that era also allow power to the meter from the winder thereby bypassing the need to find weird batteries.

I thought most people bought...is there a drop in adapter....or had the camera adapted to run a ... is it a 1.5V battery.
I could be wrong.

I have one, it kinda works but not really.

I use Zinc Air hearing aid batteries with a ring to make them the right shape in my cameras that take PX625 batteries.

I don't use my cameras often enough to trust the zinks. They last a few months. Some of my cameras only get used once or twice a year.
