VIDEO OF THE ISSUE:
Hi there!
I've been working on bringing an Olympus SP 35 back to life and have encountered a problem with the trapped needle shutter mechanism which controls the aperture opening in Auto mode.
As you can see in the video below, the maximum opening for the aperture in Auto is around f2.8, not the full f1.7 that it should be reaching before firing, as I depress the shutter release and use tweezers as a stand-in for the far side (i.e. wide-open aperture) of the trapped needle mechanism.
The depression of the shutter release plate ("B") pulls down on the tension spring (boxed), transferring the tension through to the aperture setting lever mechanism ("A"), opening the shutter until the trapped needle stops it. However, the aperture stops opening at around 2.8 even as the trapped needle has not yet stopped it (i.e. it should continue to open UNTIL the trapped needle stops it).
I have cleaned and lubricated (with graphite only) the aperture setting ring connected to mechanism "A" but this has not appeared to make any difference.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any ideas on how to proceed besides just accepting that 2.8 is the best that I can do in auto with this camera?
