I got this olympus around last year and still haven't been able to shoot it bc I don't have a lens for it. I bet it's an amazing camera, Anyone shot one of these before?

No, no one here has shot one of these.
I just use 3 of them.

Please, read the manual a few times, including the FAQ section.
It will avoid you asking questions already answered in the manual.
If you don't understand something, by all means ask your questions.

You have 1 thing "wrong" on your camera: be aware of the B lock as you shutter ring is in between B and 1.
Also, don't forget to reset the exposure compensation.

Please, use your camera and enjoy it!
It is a smooth and quiet camera.

Well, even if he gets a lens, then there's the film....then the strap....then the developing....might take a while before we see any pics. One can never be too cautious, I suppose. Slow and steady wins the race.

Maybe pics are not even the point. Reminds me of this writer who wrote long letters to his friends, then put them into a locked desk unmailed. It was the writing that was important, not the sending.

Check this site for a manual for the OM2n http://www.scribd.com/doc/54010662/Olympus-OM-2n-Camera-owner-s-manual#scribd. As was suggested earlier check KEH, they has been good to me; their BGN grade is usually just fine, and returns are easy. The f1.8 lens is excellent, and should be cheaper. Watch for a dedicated flash, in my experience they aren't too expensive. A winder is nice, they are usually pretty cheap. Snap up a 28 mm wide angle and a 135 mm tele and you're good to go!

But get with the program! Buy that 50 mm and a good neck strap so you don't drop that beauty, and DO IT! Burn some film!

I have a flash or two for Olympus, even have a couple zoom lenses left I haven't sold, fresh out of 50mm's though. Oh, and a spare winder 2.

It is written on the internet that the zuiko 50mm f1.8 lens that is labelled "made in Japan" is the most desirable version for its image making ability.
I've not done a comparison.

The OM-2n is my goto; it's the only SLR I reach for on a regular basis. Absolutely lovely camera.

I have 3 of the 50mm f1.8's . I cannot see any difference. I have seen a comparison and they actually preferred the earlier version. But really, they are all excellent. Beats the Pentax f1.7 easily. Equal to the Nikon f1.8

I never got on with the OM2N because it left me stranded with dead batteries one too many times. If they had only let the camera work on at least one speed without batteries it would make all the difference. I use OM1n's now, and sometimes I miss the auto mode, but I am happier knowing the camera will always go off.

The early ones are single coated 6 element five group
The later ones are multi coated 6 element four group

I prefer the single coated signature but YMMV.

And the later 6 element 4 group has crimped 2nd group, so it is unmaintainable.

That is unfortunately true.
I hope you were using silver oxide SR44 and not alkaline LR44.
Always have a spare pair of SR44 in the bag.
SR44 last longer and are the correct battery due to stable output.
The OM-2N came with a card asking user not to use LR44.
It also came with a grey card to be used in place of film when you wanted to test shutter speeds.

The OM2-2N TTL OTF system for both ambient or flash light is simply one of the best.
It took several years for the rest (Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, etc.) to catch up.

Don't suppose you are in the UK by any chance? I have a 100-200mm Zuiko that I would be happy to donate to get you up & running. It's sitting doing nothing but gathering dust on my shelf.

As for the OM2, I have the later OM2 SP & find the battery drain issue a bit annoying. It shoots OK but it isn't my camera of choice to use. I have an OM1 that I need to send off for repair. Suspect when I get that back it will get more use than the OM2 SP.

I have an OM-2SP which I got for spot-metering capabilities but the exterme battery consumption problem kept me from not using it.

Looking to get a nice OM-2n for street and sell/trade my OM-2SP soon.

OTF-TTL is indeed a marvel.

First SLR I owned was a OM10. The natural upgrade was the OM2n and an OM1n for the "all clockwork" backup.

The f2 Zuikos are particularly good. I have a 24 and an 85.

At this stage I am thinking of a few more bodies to finish the system off for me.

I like to take pictures of people so the 85 gets used most.

The Olympus group on apug doesn't get many users. But there is a ton of info online. As Sean said, the f2 lenses are excellent. But the f2.8 lenses are excellent as well. They are much better than many other brands consumer lenses. The 100mm f2.8 is one of my favorites.
The 24mm f2.8 has a great reputation.

olympus om-2s

Hey,

I'm having a problem with my camera and I can't find any information on it anywhere. I'm using the om-2s and it's not working. It has an auto and a program mode but it doesn't work. I click the shutter but it stays closed shut and never takes the picture. I thought it was a battery problem so i changed it but i still didn't work. The only way to use it is on the manual override on the lens on B mode or a permanent 1/60th of a second. Any clue what could be happening?
