Olympus OM1 Shutter Problem

I've been using my OM1 for about a year but recently when i've been using it the shutter seems to be sticking - the mirror sounds to go up, but to get it back down I have to wind the lever twice to advance the film. It's got a new battery so it's not that. Any ideas?

The grease that lubricates the camera has turned to wax.
The mechanical cameras do need ocassional service.

The battery in your OM-1 only operates the light meter, the shutter is mechanical and needs serviced. This is who I recommend for service.

Thanks for the replies! I'll find a company in the UK that can do it, that's where i'm based.

You could also try Michael Spencer 01246 250767

He has operated as camerarepairs-r-us but his website seems to be down. He has CLA'd 4 OMs for me and carried out repairs. he's 50 years in camera repairs specialising in OMs but is close to retirement. I spoke to him a month or two back and he said he was taking the summer off, and would see how he felt in the autumn. Old school. Give him a call on 01246 250767.

I've used both Mr Whitehead (for a Nikon F4s) and Mr Spencer (for an OM-1n). Happy with both of them although I would send the OM-1n to Mr Spencer as he seems to be working with those cameras since they were produced.

Most likely the mirror is sticking to rotting foam "cushions". You likely need all foam seals and cushions replaced. A common issue.
