Can anybody guide me toward the best way to remove the self timer from an Olympus OM-2n? I feel like I'd like the camera much better if it were gone, such that my fingers had an uncluttered grip. Plus, I feel like it would improve the aesthetics, if I re-covered it.

My situation is desperate here, because I really can't justify a timer-less Leica M2, haha.

You may get a broken winder for additional grip.

Note the OM4 and Ti have optional mini grips that would keep your fingers off their much smaller delay button.

Way too big.

Ah. I know. I would die to have that as a bolt on attachment for my OM-2.

The real "issue" is that the self timer is uncomfortable to my hand.

To remove it's a serious job, The entire front plate of the camera has to be removed.
If you could live with removing the lever, it's just the screw holding the lever on. Pop the screw off and the entire outer section(setting lever, release lever and washers) The timer itself is still held to the plate.

You're not supposed to grip the camera there. You hold the camera with your left hand and the right hand just caress the camera.

You need an OM-2s with the accessory grip.

The ERC with top unclipped on your OM2 or OM2 SP with optional mini grip will be ok. Or shoot more film so your fingers callous.

I've never noticed the self timer when holding my OM-2. No matter how hard I try, the self timer doesn't get in my way...

Have you tried adjusting the way you hold your OM?

Oh, and please don't destroy your OM-2! It's lovely just as it is

Well, that's disappointing, but being rid of the levers would definitely help. I may attempt that this weekend.

Thanks.

It may look terrible ugly after removing what ever that came from factory, except the hot-shoe. Please NO.

I may look pentax spotmatic sp 1000. There are very good M42 lenses. Helios 44-2 is one of my favourite.

People have different ways of holding a camera. To each his own.

Haha. A hearty "No thanks!" to suggestions of mutilation or migration.
