Olympus mju ii

I bought an olympus mju ii recently off eBay. In other ways it's ok but it seems the sliding front is not smooth and somehow this is affecting the lens coming out. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

I think you need to say more about what happens when you open the sliding front. Does it stick at some point and prevent the lens from moving at all so no picture is possible. If so what do you then have to do to enable the lens to move and take the picture?

that's exactly what happened to mine.Too bad was a great little camera but,I had to write it off as a loss.

It opens and you can take one picture but not a second unless I close it which takes a little coaxing. Then I can start again but I can't take photos continuously

You might try to have a look under the sliding cover. It is just a piece of plastic, sliding in two grooves of the main body.
Except that it actuates a small lever to inform the camera of the position of the cover.
So, you can take it off by prying it open from the top or bottom edge. Just remember to have the cover and the small lever in the same position when you re-assemble the cover. Hopefully you will discover some accumulated gunk that might interfere with the proper operation of that small lever. And/or squirt some contact cleaner at the lever, hoping it will penetrate below where the electrical contact is; try actuating back and forth, check that, with battery present, the lens reacts accordingly.
Good luck. Or should I say better luck. Mju-II my favorite subcompact, nicknamed The Soap Bar.

I buy a mju II local at 1/10 of that price. But... I never ever came across any mju still boxed...

Removing the sliding cover works as above but there's a small silver 3-4mm cylinder shaped piece
that's held in by the cover. It's the detent that holds the cover in position.
Hold your hand over it and work over a piece of cloth before it gets away.
