Olympus Mju ii Problem

Hello everyone!
I've been experiencing an issue with my Olympus Mju ii camera recently. Specifically, I've noticed strange lines appearing in most of my pictures. Do you have any recommendations on how to fix this issue? Thank you for your help. (I'm open to any recommendations for camera repair services in London.)

Sorry to hear your Mju has been giving you problems. In your example images, I see two issues:
* The lighter band along one of the short edges of the frame, which transitions into what seems to be a normal image via a ragged edge
* Colorful 'flames' along a long edge of the frame.

The latter is a sure sign of a light leak somewhere, possibly in the camera. Perhaps the first could be explained from the same, for instance a light leak in the vicinity of the area where the roll sits inside the camera. The ragged line reminds me of the felt light trap in a 35mm cassette.

I'm not familiar with this camera, but does it have some kind of foam light seals?
Has the camera been damaged (e.g. dropped)?

I've used up several of these wonderful little cameras. They are plastic and don't last forever.
Yes, they have foam seals and they do wear out. What is worse, the plastic gears in the autofocus system also wear out, and autofocus at closer distances becomes unreliable.
Your shots clearly show light leaks.
Sure wish they still made them!

mju 2 and the light leaks…

It’s like this camera was designed to give you light leaks.

Good news is that you don’t seem to suffer from the leak around the lens that is pretty much impossible to fix reliably.

Does the leak on the right come from the previous frame on the film or is the space between the frames unaffected?

Red-coloured leaks come from behind.

I looked (don't reall know that camera) but the MJU II seems to have the little window on the rear that lets you see the info line on the loaded film. It seems that the foam around the window might be derterioating.

Thank you for your message. I tried to fix my camera myself, but it seems I need a repair service. Strangely enough, the camera was not physically damaged. It was working perfectly until I developed the film from my recent trips. I tested it again with another film and got the same result.

To test it and, if you use it sparingly, as a fix, you can cover the window and perhaps everywhere the film door meets the body with black electrical tape. Next better option s to replace seals with new foam, relatively easy diy affair on most cameras. Then, there's https://pppcameras.co.uk/bookarepair, reported to be the man for electronic compact cameras. But I doubt this kind of camera with a limited lifespan is worth the investment.
