Hi All,

I am a big fan of the Olympus Stylus Epic Mju II. I really enjoy it.

Recently it has had signs of aging: When I press the shutter the lens extends to the maximum and stays there. Sometimes it does not take a photo, sometimes it does. It does not fire flash, it just stays extended. It is only possible to get it back to normal position in closing the door carefully for a bit. Then the lens does a little confused back and forward dance and is back to normal.

Changed battery, though the display shows it is full and cleaned the battery contacts.
Cleaned the front elements.
Now that I look at it, there is a little "fog" in the flash box.

Any ideas?

Wups, sorry just saw an old post concerning this. It was probably stuck dx code detectors. For now it seems to work.

Issues with DX code detectors will not affect lens extending. Cases of reflector fogging at compacts I came across were related to battery leakage and thus chrome layer corroding.

Mine began behaving the same way last year. I'd had it since new. Seems it's a known problem with older models.

Hi velvia max, i just got an olympus mju i and mine is doing the same exact thing you described... it works only sometimes, but mostly not. did you find the problem and did you get it fixed? im not sure what you mean by the stuck dx code detectors
