Found this formula in my archives recently and hope it can help someone looking for the formula.

Here's one version of my akaline buffered "rapidized" fix - quantities are not critical. I use cups, spoons and dashes...

The metaborate can be used for anything, the bicarbonate version should not be used with acid stop or other acidic bath in the process (gas bubbles should be avoided!)

Mixed correctly(ish), the effect is almost as good as TF-4, and the ammonia odor is far less noticable. If it stinks too much, use less alkali next time. It can be almost odorless...

600 ml water
220g Sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate
30 g Sodium sulfite anhydrous
40 g ammonium chloride
20 cl Sodium metaborate 10% solution
OR 5 g Sodium bicarbonate

Water to 1 liter.

That is similar to Agfa 304 fixer. I have used Agfa 304 in the past and it does work.

Why suffer with the pungent odour of Ammonia when you can make a neutral fixer as detailed here?

I have used homemade OF-1 fixer a couple of times, but switched to making my own TF-2 fixer. TF-2 is all I've used now for the past 8 to 10yrs.. Simple to make and very cost friendly too. Still, there is nothing wrong with OF-1 either.

That's right, TF-2 is sufficient. Nothing else other required.

An advantage of the fixer in post #1 and of Rudeofus's fixer is the addition of ammonium ions which makes it somewhat like a rapid fixer.

I like fast fixers as much as anybody here and TF-2 is fast enough for me. Plus, I like the ease of making it and the low cost. On fresh batches of TF-2 I get clear times of around 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 minutes, but always fix for 7 minutes until clear times start getting longer. Of course I filter and reuse my TF-2 instead of tossing it after every film.

I second this. @Rudeofus' neutral fixer works great, is fast, is cheap, and has good capacity. And it doesn't smell.

I could use any one of the that have been brought up here and be happy. I just happened to pick TF-2 and stuck with it. Karl, I'm also going to mix a new batch of PC-512 to go along with my TF-2 when I get back up to the cottage. Good stuff!
