I want to use a triple convertible lens for whole plate.
Is this lens a good idea or a bad idea?

Hugo Meyer Satz Plasmat 4.5 22.3cm

thanks

That should work fine.

Plasmats are the "originals" on which most modern lenses are based, and a 223mm should cover whole plate nicely. At least my 210mm Symmar convertible covers 18x24cm at small stops (for a given value of "coverage").

Thanks Ole
I was in Norway the other day, swimming in a fjord, a new experience!

The old Hugo Meyer plasmats are lovely lenses, very sharp, but expect fairly soft contrast if it's uncoated, as it has eight glass-to-air surfaces. The Hugo Meyer company produced the first Plasmats, so it's a nice connection to history...

I am not certain if this is the triple lens you have, but according to a Meyer brochure of the late twenties there was a Plasmatsatz that consisted of a Plasmat lens 1:8/40cm and a 1:8/32cm which combined to 1:4.5/ 22cm covering 13x18cm ,when fully open, up to 24x30cm, when stopped down. Coverage for the single 40cm Plasmat lens is given as 13x21cm (35x45cm when stopped down), and 12x16cm ( 30x40) for the 32cm lens.

Cheers
Uli
