Hello, I have couple of older 35mm negatives with some fingerprints on them. Have you any idea about re-washing them ? I consider pure alcohol first, to dissolve oil, and then water with wetting agent. Also how to dry negs, if they are already cutted in 5 or 6 frames strips only, it is impossible to hang them ...

Thanks in advance,
r.

You can hang paper clips from a hanger & hook the paper clips in the sprocket holes of the film to hang them.

Craig, that is a really, really good idea! Why have I never thought of that? Thanks from me, too.

This is a very timely post. I have a friend who recently found a box full of old negs at her Grandmother's house. They weren't well stored, and are at the very least dirty, and many are stuck together. I was thinking of rewashing them, but wonder if there is anyting else that could be done to separate the ones that are stuck together?

For the stuck negatives try an extended soak in LFN, or any other good wetting agent. The task will not be accomplished in a few minutes but may in a few hours.

As for washing off fingerprints- this may not be possible if they have been on there for a long time as the acids in our skin secretions may have etched the prints into the emulsion. BUT- it is worth a try.

Done. About 10 minutes in alcohol and then 2 or 3 in water with welling agent. Clear when dryied. Ufff.
