I'm using some not-so-fresh Ilford warmtone and getting a slight splotchiness and speckling in the paper emulsion. I know I've read a recommendation to add something to the developer to try to correct this problem, but I can't find it in the archives. Would anyone mind reminding me what aditives I should try here? Thanks.
Kodak Anti-fog tablets #1, (benzitriol) Sp? However, the problem will persist if you store it in your Norman Rockwell "darkroom" as paper is sensitive to gaseous environments (eat more roughage).
Thanks for the BZT pointer. That's it. To wrap up this thread with all the pertinent info, I found that The Darkroom Cookbook had specific recommendations for this:
For salvaging outdated papers, mix a 0.2% solution (2 grams in water at 125 F/52 C to make 1 liter). Add 15 ml of this solution to every liter of developer. If 15 ml does not do the trick, keep adding 15 ml at a time and make tests until you get a clear paper without fog.
