Scrapping an LCD monitor?

Crack it open and get a couple of diffusion filters, a fresnel lens sheet, a pearl white reflector and a piece of light piping plexi.
All ready to take out in sheet form.

The Polarizers might be tougher to get at. Depending on the screen and age of it, it might be impossible or doable or get them off the panel in one piece.

Do be careful not to cut yourself on the liquid crystal sandwich. It’s crisp as a cracker and the shards are sharp as razor blades!

Any experiences and use cases you guys want to share?

Any idea what the focal length of the Fresnel sheet is? Potentially useful on a large format ground glass?

They differ widely. Some of the lenses are linear, some are spherical and others use some “unusual” wavy lines.

The only way to know is to test it.

They are probably infinity focused, since their job is to collimate the light in the panel to get more bang per watt in the viewing direction.
They can be used in the same way with flash, to get a nice big daylight-ish source.
