Old flash mounts on new cameras?

Hi, I am pretty new to film and just recently bought a Mint like new Konica FT-1. I went on ebay and bought a flasher that works on FT-1 cameras called the Sunpak auto 422D, and it works great. I then bought a new canon rebel K2 film camera to learn on, and was wondering if I could use that same flasher for my new canon? I have been too scared to mount the flasher feeling it may fry my new canon. It does say on the flashbox "For all regular 35mm shoe mount cameras". But I have no idea what is a regular 35mm camera and what is not. If anyone knows or has tried old flashers on new cameras let me know. thanks.

P.S. I posted this on the 35mm camera accessories section. I did not know we had a flash section. I'm beginning to love APUG more and more...

It should work fine; no real voltage sent through the hot shoe where it mounts, so no real worries about frying the electronics.

The only real consideration is, does the Sunpak confuse the K2, which might be expecting a dedicated Canon flash? As long as the Sunpak only has one contact on the bottom of the hot shoe (foot where it mounts), then it should not pose a problem.

If it has multiple contacts, you might get errors.

Again, no worries about frying the camera or flash; at worst it will not work or will work badly.

I use a Wien Safe Sync with my Canon T90, it's a hot shoe adaptor with a sync socket for a cable it reduces the trigger voltage of any flash to five volts to prevent frying the cameras electronics.
