So, which one you prefer, the newer model or the older model? I have a A16 back dated 1971. I just received an excellent A12 back with a dark slider holder, dated 2003. Well, I like the older better. Is heavier. The tabs for holding the film roll have individual hinges. The chrome is more stainless steel looking. The film winder lever is partly alloy. Also, the film roll is supported by each individual free rolling wheels in order to reduce frictions.

The newer model is lighter. The film tab holders are integrated as a single piece. The chrome has that plastic silver look. It has no individual wheel supporting the film roll. The film winder lever is all plastic.

I like the chrome and the black film backs. I do not discriminate. I buy backs that are $100 or less, add a Lindahl dark slide holder and take it to get a CLA at Samys on Fairfax in Los Angeles. That has worked will for me. I like the new backs too but their price is above my budget.

I only use 6x6 backs.

Must be my luck...Scoring a good deal with the Hasselblad 553 elx. And now...only paying $75 for a 2003 a12 back with the dark slide holder. Is in excellent condition and it has been being used by the seller. I guess I have to like the newer back because it is a 6x6 back. The older one is 6x4.5.

I prefer the separately hinged spool holders. They seem a little less fiddly to work with.

They are less fiddly and more expensive. I have some of those too.

As long as it holds the film flat and gives me 12 non-overlapping frame with no light leaks, I am all good

I should sell one to finance another E-12 though.
