Oil free Fluid

Hi, I am trying to find out what is meant by the term 'oil free (oilfree) fluid'. It is mentioned is the Olympus OM-1 service guide. Is this a synthetic lubricant? Are there well known 'oil free fluid' brands for cameras? Any help appreciated. Thank you.

"Oil" in technics is synonyme for a lubricant of certain rheologic charactetistics. In contrast to for instance a solid or a grease.

Thus the term "oil-free liquid" in its the context is nonsense to me. But as you indicated it might mean a lubrication oil free of mineral oils.

Thank you. I am guessing the phrase is a translation. It would be good to know what is meant by it. The related drawings in the service manual suggest that it may be applied to, say, curtain roller gears....

Synthetic oils have as advantage that they keep their rheologic characteristics also at lower temperatures. I tend to these.

Hi, thank you... yes, I saw this discussion, but it seemed to be focused on oils and not ‘oil free’ - also could not determine which, if any, are synthetic oils, if that is actually what is meant y the term ... will certainly look again...

In that thread once Moebius is hinted at. They make synthetic oils, but there are a variety from small fims to the majors.

The problem with oils is that if you look at watchmakers forums you will get similar results as when asking here for an apt developer....

One may argue on longevity, temperature, spread, stiffness and abrasion.

Thank you ... but, why do you need an oil stopper if there is no oil in this part of the camera ... and do you have an example brand name for an oil stopper...

To keep the oil stay put to lubricate and to not let it make a mess of it over time. There are various makes, but expensive and not intended for amateur use.

Its use is even not correctly indicated in that manual you have it about.
