I am expecting my R1900 Epson printer tomorrow and wonder what choices I will have in overhead projection material for making digital negatives. I stopped by Staples, because I was driving by, and found they have for inkjet 3M OHP. It wasn't cheap. I'm familiar with Pictorico because I have heard about it in threads but not the Freestyle brand or any others. Should I just order some Pictorico, how far will 25 sheets go in the learning curve? Can I cut it up or print on it a couple of times in different places? Any recommendations to avoid waste?

Is there a list of OHP film for making digital negatives out there? What do you use and what do you like. My bet is the price is going to be very close among brands.

If I'm driving you folks nuts let me know.
Thanks,
Curt

I use Arista (Freestyle) and Inkpress as drop-in replacements for Pictorico.
These all work great, but I like Inkpress the best because it comes in lots of sizes, is cheaper than Pictorico, and especially because they package 8-1/2x11 in 50 sheet boxes. You will burn through a lot of fim while learning to make digital negatives so 25 sheets will not go very far, even though you can print several step tables on each sheet of film. There are other less expensive films that can work (Canon Transparent Clear Film, Photowarehouse Crystal Clear Inkjet Film, ...) but are not as easy to use because they don't hold ink as well, or are quicker to show pizza wheel marks.

Thank you, I will look at Inkpress, I need to check on a source.

I'm a step away from printing a digital negative. I need to order OHP film and begin. I received my R1900 printer and set it up and got it going. The prints from it are amazing compared to my older printers. I put my Epson 1520 in the box the R1900 came in and moved it out. My primary interest in purchasing this printer is in the production of digital negatives. I'm at the point where I see that the learning curve is rather steep but what the hey where will I be if I don't take the challenge. Thanks to all who helped me get this going.

I also have been using the Freestyle Arista. I have had no issues with pooling, tracks, ect and I am quite happy with it.

The bonus is that in the 11x17 & 17x22 sizes ( not sure about 8 1/2 X 11 ) they have a tissue separating each sheet. I like this as I store my negative in old paper boxes and this helps ( I think ) protect the negative.

I use Canon clear transparency film for large prints and pictorico for smaller prints ... the biggest difference is the CCTF prints a little quicker because it is clear. I'm using iPF5000 printer with LUCIA ink.
