Just wanted to share some observations from a print session this past two weekends. Was printing some work on Forte Polygrade V, started out using some Zonal Pro Warmtone (because Michael B. had made note of using it in another post and I wanted to see how it performed), but did not like the punch so switched back to ZoneVI paper developer (modified Dektol I think).

Anyway, all prints were dried and this past weekend I started to tone them in KRST (dil. around 1:5) for 5 min., the prints developed in Zone VI developer did not show any color shift (though I suspect that somewhere between 5 and 10 min. they would start to show a little eggplant in the shadows)..anyway the print processed in the ZP Warmtone, went to a very nice chocolate brown, and I like the results. Have read how the developer has as much to do with how a print/paper tones but had not seen it first hand. For those out there wanting to get that rich brown color I would recommend playing around with the developers.

I use Agfa Neutol WA for warmtones and that increased the responsiveness of the papers further. If I use Eukobrom (very cold) it reduces sensitivity and warm papers become more lethargic. I have not tried different fixers, but have heard that the use of normal (non rapid) fixer or alkali fixer make papers perform quite differently in toners too (as well as hardening fixer all but preventing toning).
