Your shutter is "capping," which is when one shutter curtain overtakes the other. Most common at fast speeds. An easy fix. You can even do yourself, it you're so inclined. If not, a good repair tech can fix this.

No, one can't "do it yourself", unless he/she is an advanced repairman.
I am a camera tech and the New F-1 is one of the most difficult cameras to service properly (as well as one of my favorite cameras to use. Heck, i'm literally wearing a "Canon F-1" t-shirt right now, custom-made.)
Only the best techs, which have already enough experience with the F-1, would be able to do this without risking damaging some part of the camera, or the electronics. Or doing a bad job (i.e. the 2000 speed being really 1000).
My advice would be: Give it to a tech that swears you he/she knows the
New F-1.
