Occasional shutter curtain problem with Canon New F-1

I am testing out a Canon New F-1. In general, everything is fine and the operation is excellent. In the rolls I have shot so far, 1-2 each roll turn out like the picture attached, quite at random. I assume that the problem is a sticking shutter and that sending it to a well-regarded camera repair shop (I have in mind Garry’s Cameras) for a CLA is likely to fix the problem. Is this correct? Have I missed anything?

To clean lubricate and adjust your camera Paul won't necessarily fix your shutter problem, you could also ask the camera repairer to diagnose and repair your shutter as well.

If the tech wouldn't/couldn't fix that he may as well retire.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to mention the problem though

Your shutter is "capping," which is when one shutter curtain overtakes the other. Most common at fast speeds. An easy fix. You can even do yourself, it you're so inclined. If not, a good repair tech can fix this.

what Jim B. said. It's common, and a fairly easy adjustment/repair, (but not one *I* can do myself) though many camera techs will (correctly IMO) want to do a full service of the camera.

No, one can't "do it yourself", unless he/she is an advanced repairman.

I am a camera tech and the New F-1 is one of the most difficult cameras to service properly (as well as one of my favorite cameras to use. Heck, i'm literally wearing a "Canon F-1" t-shirt right now, custom-made.)

Only the best techs, which have already enough experience with the F-1, would be able to do this without risking damaging some part of the camera, or the electronics. Or doing a bad job (i.e. the 2000 speed being really 1000).

My advice would be: Give it to a tech that swears you he/she knows the New F-1.

Easy if you think the solution is "increasing curtain tension", which is the bad, BAD advice some YouTube DIY videos tell you.

This is not the correct solution and will damage your camera in the long run (and not so long, really).
