O. Winston Link photos at Vermont Center for Photography

Best known for his photography and sound recordings of the last days of the steam railroad, and for pioneering night photography. As a teenager, Link developed early interests in photography, locomotives and rail yards. Amid the depression era, Link graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn with a degree in civil engineering. Soon after, he took a job as a photographer for a public relations firm, an act that launched his lifelong photographic career.

In conjunction with the show there will be a talk by Thomas Garver, who was an assistant and agent for Link during his career. The talk will be on Saturday Aug 4 at 6:00 p.m.

Yes! My Faire Spouse and I spent last Thanksgiving in Roanoke with another couple, our annual "Turkey Day" excursion. Tom and I are both RR fans so you can bet we checked that out. As I recall they also had video of some of the amazing amount of setup he did for flash pictures at night, etc. Definitely a worthwhile visit. The museum is in the former Norfolk & Western passenger station and there is also a history museum with more info on the N&W in its heyday, so there's lots to see. (Should you go to Roanoke, the former freight depot is now the Virginia Museum of Transportation, with some samples of the pinnacle of the N&W's steam locos among many other things.)
