I shot about half a roll on Xmas day (acutally the 23rd when we had our big family get together) but still have to shoot out the roll. I get another chance in Tucson in a few days with the rolls I stashed out there.

From the pics you guys have shown this is really nice film - and you know something - it really shows how different film is from digi - even when digi scanned!

Too bad we now know even more about K's plans after their YouTube post, I guess they saved the best for last!

Too bad, so sad.... :confused:

I think the Reala looks better than the Portra.

So now that Christmas and New Years are over- anyone use their free rolls of Kodak film yet?

Also anyone see the new film in stores yet? Im thinking of 120 and 35mm.

If you don't mind me asking which lab do you work at? I work at Lens and Shutter in Abbotsford and no one seems to know when or if these films will be coming in on my end as well.

I've shot a couple of rolls of the Porta and like it very much. Definitely renders skin tones very nicely. Whether I buy it in the future will depend on its price vs. Reala etc. but it's a nice film.

Thats funny as Im a customer of yours. I often come into your lab for whatever I need like film dev of 120 or B&W/ E-6. I do my 35mm c-41 at my lab. I work at the Walmart lab (ikes!- I said it!) in Chilliwack. I was just at your lab today to get a roll of 160VC and Reala. I may of even talked to you. Since I bought your last roll of 35mm 160VC, is it safe to say you'll be getting a new order with the new stuff in?

I just shot a test of 4 films plus digital. Its under another thread in this forum.

Haha yes I spoke to you about the films. I couldn't get a straight answer of whether we would be getting the new films in from the people working today. I will talk to the manager I am trying to get him to bring in more film and darkroom paper products as they are lacking.

Yes tell Jerry to get the new stuff in. I might just buy a 5 pro pak of 120 of 160VC. I was going to get some 35mm as well, but it seems my Rebel XTi beats the results off 35mm I got.

One shot - and one only.

Because:

1) I'm a crummy photographer, generally;

2) I've never liked taking close-in "people shots" - but this film is supposed to give great skin tones;

3) I had to use a flash - and I don't know diddly about flash settings (thank goodness for auto).

Anyway:

New Porta NC160 with flash on my F5 with one of my darned AF zooms out in Tucson last week at our New Year's Day Party.

Oh, and it's been JPEG'd to fit here....

Jerry retired? Wow. First Susan, then him. He seems so young to retire if you ask me. So who is running the show there now? Leon, Duncan, and Ted seem to be the only original crew guys left.

So how do you like working there? I had an interview with them many years ago (like 2001 I think). Since you shoot medium format- it must be nice to be able to do your own work at the place you work. Thats one plus I like about working at my lab- they let you do all your own film/ digital pictures.

Duncan is the only real original from the get go. Steve is the manager now he transfered from one of the other stores. I was asked by Jerry to work there and I like most of the other staff which is good although Laura is leaving as well. But I am only going to be there a short time as I will probably be back in school in Sept. I shoot mostly black and white so I don't use the lab that much except for the minimal colour work I do as I develop my b/w at home and work in my own darkroom. How many people work in the Walmart lab?

Ok. I think Leon came later, but I thought for sure Ted was there since day 1. I remember him being there when I first starting going there which was around 2001-2002. Ok Ive met Steve. He's the one that got approval for the good pricing on the Canon 50L I ordered.

As for our lab we have 8 people in there including the lab manager. Im the only original left in there since 1998. I can't believe Ive been there 8 years already. If I ever leave that lab, I'll probably be applying for another one (assuming the pay is better) which would include Lens And Shutter. But I dont see myself leaving for now.

Okay, got some more test shots back.

The first attachment shows the difference between 160VC-2 and 160NC-2 printed on Endura. They're fairly close. VC is a little more saturated, but the difference isn't huge, but in flat light the VC looks a little better.

The second scan compares grain. The first patch is old 160NC-35mm; the second is 160NC-2-120; and the third is 160VC-2-120. All three are scanned at 1000 DPI on my Agfa Duoscan (so even though they are different formats, the grain is at the same scale) on the glass tray with a sheet of glass over the negs. The new 160NC-2 looks really nice in this regard.

First of all - you've got yourselves one beautiful baby! Definitely a "keeper"!

As to the pics - the first pair is a really close call but I'm leaning to the NC.

The second group puts me firmly in that "camp" - I prefer the NC to the VC (although I wouldn't turn down a free lifetime supply of fresh dated VC )

Oh, and from the second group - I think it's clear that the "newbies" are better than the old version.

My interpretation as well, George. I haven't shot very much color neg in recent years, but these films and the ease of RA4 printing might get me to do color neg again. I'm planning to take advantage of the rebate offer, and I suspect I'll be getting the 160NC and 400VC for low light in 120, and maybe some 400NC in 35mm for my wife's P&S (Yashica T4s--doesn't know how to deal with 160 speed films).
