The show at Vermont Center for Photography for November is "Domestic Pleasures, New Work by Lynne Jaegger Weinstein"
Lynne Jaegger Weinstein with student work from: Brattleboro Union High School, Leland & Gray, and the Putney School
"Domestic Pleasures is photographed on large format black and white film that finds beauty in the dutiful moments of homemaking. Weinstein shot these photographs using a large-format 4 x 5 camera. This restricted my mobilitythe bulky camera must sit on a tripod. The formal challenges inherent in the process of creating these images mirrored the limitations of trying to make art while working, mothering, and being a homemaker.
Weinstein asked her students from three area high schools, Brattleboro Union, Leland & Grey and the Putney School, to photograph their mothers working, and to think about the kind of work their mothers do. Most of these photographs became portraits and she includes some of them with writings by the students about their mothers and their mothers work.
Weinstein received grant funding from The Vermont Arts Council, The Vermont Community Foundation Arts Endowment Fund and The National Endowment for the Arts for her work on Domestic Pleasures.
Opening reception on Gallery Walk, November 7, 5:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m.at The Vermont Center for Photography, 49 Flat Street, Brattleboro, Vermont. Exhibit continues through November 30. Gallery open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon. For information call 802-251-6051.
