November 9th and 10th photo events in Beaverton, Oregon.
Photography lecture
I am pleased to host a lecture and slide show by Ben Coffman at the Community Center, Vose Room in Beaverton. I came across Ben while cruising Craigslist. He had a posting for sites to photograph at night; his specialty. He does some really interesting star field photography with natural and man-made buildings included. Later, I saw three prints of his at the Oregon State Fair. Here is sample from his biography.
“So why am I interested in night photography? The medium first captured my imagination after my friend and fellow photographer Buck Christensen recommended I read Lance Keimig’s book Night Photography: Finding Your Way in the Dark. Keimig’s text and the accompanying images opened me up to a world of possibilities beyond long exposures of cars driving down roads or randomly waving a flashlight in front of an open shutter (the types of images I had first started working with in a college photography class a decade or more ago). There was an air of mystery in those dark images and a freedom to get away from traditional (to me: daylight) photography.”

Each review will be 30 minutes, open to the public and free. I have contacted the local high school photography classes so I hope they will come in. It is a first come, first serve event, but appointments are available.
