I have a 2 slot nova tank. When processing b&w prints what combination of chemicals dev stop fix should I use in the two slots and which should I use in a single tray.

I'd use the slots for dev and fix and the tray for the stop. Stop is cheapest and suffers less from being open to air. You can change your stop after every session, if required, whereas your dev and fix can be replenished according to the makers instructions and will keep in the slots

I think I'd go for dev and stop in the Nova and fix in a tray. I think the workflow would be a little easier that way, you can do dev, stop and then remove the clip for the print to go into the fixer.
You can always decant the fixer into a bottle for storage between sessions.

If you want to use a two bath fix, then doing both in trays will make that a little easier, (IMHO), assuming you have the room and trays available.

I use a Nova quad with developer, stop, fix and fix.

Great exactly what I was looking for. I hopefully will get three slot processors in the future but as this one was offered so cheap I thought I'd give it a go.

Seems to me that two 2-slot processors would be ideal - developer, stop, fix1, fix2.
