Hello to you all!
I've been away for some time, so I decided to introduce myself anew. I'm a soon-to-be middle-aged man from Finland, a country well-known for offering any photographer the chance to use shutter-speeds down to several seconds without a tripod.
But how is this possible, You ask? Well, the low temperatures make You so stiff, You can't move a muscle. Just remember to keep an assistant with You, someone who can pull the trigger, when the time is right.

Regards, Frankly Unsharp

P.S I've sold most of My "collection" , i had more than 50 cameras, but now I'm down to 15!

Welcome back to APUG

Frankly, it's nice to have you back!

Are you PUNishing us?

Ok, I promise to stick to the truth this time around, the frozen man with his assistant were of course only a product of My misleading brain. Today nobody here really cares about the phenomenon called "Suomi-kuva" (the picture of Finland), but still in the 1980-1990 :tees the government in Finland was very concerned about what kind of picture foreigners and visitors got of our country, and what could be done tom improve it (included the impression Finns gave when they visited other countries).
Since we are outnumbered by almost every other nation (inhabitants 5 000 000 +), and thereby an easy boat to turn, it was thought that information would reach everybody, and the Finns would behave more like their brothers and sisters in the European Union. In some ways it must have been a success, but people are people and big changes come slowly.
About foreigners beliefs vs. the truth: Polar bears walk the streets in Rovaniemi, our biggest town in the north; FALSE; as its name tells us, this bear likes to stay in the icy regions of the North Pole. Can be found on Finnish soil, but only in some Zoos.
Finnish drinking habits leave a lot to wish for, drunken Finns can be found any time of the week, or time of the day; TRUE; But things are getting better. Finland, and the other Nordic countries, are moving towards the boozing habits of the rest of Europe, not so heavy drinking (keeping it hidden?). During the transformation from one system to the other. we have to feel the weight from both of them: from Monday to Friday: Vodka , Week-ends: Vine. :laugh:

There You have it. Only facts as far as the eye can see. (Some problems with the last line, but it's well marked...)

For those who complain about the text being more politics than photography: You don't get the big picture, do You?

So it's our Nordic heritage coming out is it? Aye, the UK has its share of inebriates too. Although UK drunks tend to do daft things. Like, "ere yon guy's got a camera! Let's get inter t' foter." Cue, Keystone Kops type scramble. (Note to readers the Queen's English is, "Hoy, look that bloke's got a camera! Let us all get into his photo PDQ!")

Week-ends: Vine ?? :confused:

Its bit strange that they do everything right during entire week but during weekend?? :confused:

Frankly... hello and welcome to APUG!

I meant why changing the drink when everything is going alright...

For most of the heavy drinkers it doesn't matter what's in their glass, as long as there something in it. I don't know where they get the money, but everybody needs a hobby and boozing is still cheaper than using film , I guess...

But more likely booze with damage ones liver sooner and faster than lack of proper darkroom ventilation.

Exactly! Go figure, they want to ban hydroquinone, when ethanol is still around everywhere, and we can even drink it.

Welcome back-we won't freeze you out:whistling::wink:!

Welcome back-we won't freeze you out:whistling::wink:!

Thanks for telling me, the weather conditions had me worried that something like that was happening:unsure:
Holding a camera makes Your fingers cold in no time at all. There is plenty of metal and glass in old cameras, and both materials are good "transporters" when it comes in contact with human skin. And using gloves won't do You much good, either.They get wet very easily, increasing the feel of cold.
Hard times ahead, so take care!
