Please allow me to introduce myself. I've been lurking on this site for 2 years now and finally felt I might have something to say. Although I am not much of a photographer in my own right, I have been collecting and selling photography privately for some time. I'm not here to sell work though, just to contribute my 2 cents if I can in discussions where photography as art is concerned. I'm also hoping to continue my education in traditional photography. I've become a pretty decent shooter since lurking around here! You can't help but learn! It is really good to see so many still interested in film. Thanks! PD

Hello and welcome. I'm anxious to here you point of view on matters. It'll be nice to have another perspective...so many of us are wound up in the technology, the equipment and the methods...again, welcome.

Brad.

Greetings and welcome.

I see you are from SE Mich... where? I go between Dearborn and Cross Village. Any chance we've met? Do you know Tom Halsted? Probably a dumb question... Anyway, good to have you around andlook forward to your input. There are a few of us here in Michigan and maybe you would like to get together some time.

Bill

Hi,
Welcome.

Question on dealing?

How does one become a dealer? I've been asked by some photographers to become one for them and I don't know where to start or go about it. Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks and Welcome.

Welcome from western Massachusetts. Glad that you finally decided to come out of the shadows.

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone!

Bill - Yes, I met you at your Iceland opening some years back. I even have several of your prints in my collection. Also saw you in a group show at PF Gallery a couple of months back. Beautiful work. I may be in a buying mood again soon. I do also know Tom and have done business with him. In dealing, I am nowhere near his league. (PM sent)

Robert - When I was younger I had more expendable funds, bought well and it grew from there. I have sold through a lot of my collection several times now. In doing this you get connected with others doing the same and it can get addictive. Reputation grows and you can get consignments from other dealers selling their inventory for a percentage. You get a sense for what sells and what your clients are interested in and can regularly present them work that may interest them. It has been a long process and it is hard to know where to begin! Hope this helps some. As I said, I am no big time dealer, but I do have a select group of clients that keeps me busy on the side.

Thanks again to all for the warm welcome! PD
