not sure if this is the right place for this thread
i hope the moderators move it if need be ...

there are a ton of workshops and lectures yearly
that people pay to see or be a part of
but do people here have information about photography programs
in schools and what they have to offer ...

there are. few types of schools out there but they sort of offer
similar things ...
art school
under graduate / liberal arts
community college
technical school
and correspondnce school

i worked for someone who grew up dirt poor on a farm
in rural maine in the great depression
and she learned photogeaphy through the new york institute of photography
and their correspondence courses. that school and a handful of others currently
offer classwork through the internet ...

has anyone used these schools what do they offer and is it worth the money?

I live down the road from and have taken one class at Maine Media College/workshops. It's a solid place for hands on learning. It's basically a lot of workshops happening all the time for people like me who have a vacation week or weekend once in a while and want to spend it learning and shooting. But they have programs and advisors who help people put together a selection/sequence of workshops/courses so it ends up being more of a technical style education for people who wish to be immersed in learning for a season.
