Norwood Director, is it fine ?,ring use, no turn withour turn ASA

One of my friend is offered a Norwood Director FREE only for shipment. I accepted and geel thankful to him. He reports his meters ring doesnt rotate withour rotating ASA dial. What does it mean ? Does it meter anyway with some circus show ?

They are all like that, but to set the ASA you have to hold the little metal tab stationary while you turn the dial. Maybe the little metal tab has broken off or he is not sure how to use it. I got my Norwood in 1983 and it still works ok.
