Looks good, Peter. I'm a little behind you guys. I finally developed the first batch of 6 sheets tonight - the rest will be done tomorrow, I hope. The roll film will be waiting for a Hewes reel and some practice.

I'm sorry Matt. I thought I posted a response. We loved having you here and seeing how many people were enjoying the the place. At one point there were four view cameras set up enjoying this little 1/3 acre pond. Dorothy squawked about brush in her way and I fired up the chainsaw. No effort is too great for a good picture.

We are staging a rematch: October 17, 18 and 19

The big maple tree to the west of the house is beginning to turn dark red. Dolly, Cindy, Savannah and I went for a hike in the park today. The girls (yellow Labradors) said, hey, when are all those neat people going to come back and throw apples for us into the pond? We forgot to tell you about Sylvan pond in the park, a half mile walk in, a mirrored lovely pond surrounded with deciduous trees. Those are the ones that turn colors aren’t they?

Well, we are going to stage a rematch at the Powers pond and house. All you folks that came a few weeks ago and those that wanted to, but couldn’t that weekend, come on over October 17, 18 and 19. Campers welcome, but no porta potty rented this time unless we get enough people on short notice to pay the $110. Campers can come in Thursday night if they like.

Come shoot the color, or if you are color blind like me, come shoot the stuff you shoot all year. Show up each day at 9 AM and 5 PM to plan, talk or go to dinner. Bring prints to show if you have any this soon. There will be a bonfire in the camping area. BYO chair and beverage. If you are camping bring “warmies”. The last three nights have had frost warnings.

In our debriefing after the first gathering, Dorothy had an idea we can implement if you like. I hiked the early comers all over the place showing them beautiful places to shoot. Panting, Dorothy suggested I pick a place, take you there for a few hours and concentrate on that. Those that don’t want to, can go where they were going to go in the first place.

For those that were here, I will select the Park parking lot in the town of Peninsula. There is a big open swamp on one side, the Cuyahoga River on the other. There are OH & Erie Canal Locks all around, a lovely foot bridge crossing the river, and vertical cliff sides to the river. If you can’t find something there, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic RR leaves from the one room station next to the parking lot. You can catch a ride and find what does appeal.

Let us know who is coming. If you are new to the group PM me, and I will send you a questionnaire so we know where to send the bodies after the event. Come on by. We had a ball last time. We have never had guests who took such good care of the place and enjoyed themselves so much. We miss you already.

John,

Thanks for offering this. I'll try to make it for at least part of the time, but need to check with the rest of the family schedules.

As added incentive, there is a camera show (used gear sales and swap) at the Quality Inn at Exit 173 of the turnpike, I-80, on Sunday the 19th from 10am to 3pm. That's the exit folks used for John's place. The show is shrinking lately, but bargains can still be had. I didn't buy, but saw two large Packard shutters there a few shows back. Had to pass on a Leitz V35 enlarger with Focotar and both color and B&W modules for $400. Got an Isolette I for $7 in excellent condition. http://cleveland.craigslist.org/pho/863003427.html

I've had the usual unexpected delays in processing film, so haven't gotten any from the gathering done yet.

Count me in. On the 19th I'll be checking out the Photorama as it is still mostly analog. We have about 25% color change in the leaves.

I might make it. That weekend and the week following might be taken up by a trip with my sweetie. If it looks like that will happen, I might just go over by myself to do some shooting anyway. I'll let you know!

Nice invite John, but will have to pass as I'll be on my way up to the Ottawa River Valley in Ontario to meet with Joe Cornish, Sandy King, Les McClean and Bob Carnie for the Elevator Dead Link Removed workshop. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

Here's hoping you all have a great time. Someone have an ice cream for me!

doggonit! I just got a job that requires me to work on Sundays. I may have to just come over for one day. We'll see how it goes.

Is anyone interested in an 8x10 enlarger or film holders? I could bring those along as well - (pm me)

the chain saw? that was great, John!

John-According to my Palm-Pilot your Museum show starts Weds 15th?(Elaborate) It either moved or my Palm-editing is not as good as it used to be. Found this Online:

Friday October 24, 2008
Opening: Building America's Canals
East Boulevard Complex

Come in and learn all about a historic form of transportation with this hands-on exhibit for children and families that explores the history and technology of transportation canals that were built in 19th-century America. John Powers uses a special 7”x17” camera to create stunning studies of the Ohio & Erie Canal today - on display at the WRHS from October 24 to mid-January.

Thanks Paul. Not your fault. There was a miscommunication with the museum. I had been told the 14th. It was not to rush my work, because my thirty prints were due and delivered on Oct. 1. I saw that posting one hour before we sent the show card to the printer. A little fast shuffle and back in business. Show opens Oct. 24th and goes to Jan 15th. There are events linked to the Canal exhibit all that weekend that I want to attend. That was another reason for scheduling this event a week earlier.

The show itself is really three shows. There is a touring museum show about canal building. The Western Reserve Historical society is going to show historic photos from their large collection. Then they are going to show my thirty 7x17" images of the canal and its environment today. That is part of the same series that I have been working on to build a 100 pictures for a book through the University of Akron Press. I am at about 70 images now after about a year and a half on the project.

Sick and busy at work.... No time to read this. I'll double check the dates for the "reunion" and your show, john - when I have some time tonight or tomorrow night. Both sound great! All the best. Shawn

Shawn,

Sorry about sick. Much of that was here also, starting with Dolly when you were here and then me. The dogs were fine.

There may be a misunderstanding. The "reunion" is Thursday - Oct 17, 18, through Sunday Oct. 19th. If you want to camp, as you did last time, you are welcome to arrive Wednesday evening. There will be no porta potty unless enough people are coming to pony up the $110 rental.

The canal show starts Oct. 24 and goes through Jan. 15th. There are too many show related things that I want and in some cases need to do for the two events to be on the same weekend.

But you Shawn are welcome, as are any other film shooters interested.

At the last event Dorothy expressed doubt when I warned her to be careful about leaving food out or in her tent. I told her that we had raccoon, possum, coyote, and that the Richfield Police and Dog Catcher were trapping for wolves a mile away after some sightings. Well Dorothy you ain’t seen nothing yet. Read this. Southern Road is ¼ mile from where you were camping. How do you feel about a Mountain Lion in your pup tent? What has happened to the neighborhood? Where is Mr. Rogers when you need him? http://www.ohio.com/lifestyle/30553834.html

interesting article John, this summer we had a bear siting at presque isle beach. I don't know what ever happened to that.

So...maybe i could just pitch my tent as a decoy and sleep in my jeep! I hope you have a Nikon SLR (F100 or F6 of course) with a motor driven 400mm VC so you can shoot it

No, but I do have five shot semi auto 12 ga. shotguns with 1 oz. slugs left over from my days as a pro for Remington Arms. For something more powerful I would suggest you pal up with Bethe. Her "sweetie" as she calls him is a Lt. Col. on his way to Iraq. As a Spec 4 in the reserves during Nam days I had my own arms room and a Jeep with a mounted .30 Cal machine gun. Lord help us what a Lt. Col. could come up with. Still, there is nothing that moves so quietly as a big, 150 lbs, 8 ft. long, cat at night.

You all come. Did you wonder why I asked for an emergency contact in the questionnaire?

Well, they switched my hours around so now I'm working Sunday thru Thursday & have Friday & Saturday off at least till after the election. So I'm going to try and make it. And if I'm really ambitious, maybe I can make some prints. I promise I won't bring a hundred this time - that's just too many to sit through.

as for the lion... maybe there's safety in numbers?

Great news. I think the goal is to be the second most attractive morsel. Anyone spending his days at the Country Maid may rise to the top of the list.

I'd be scared to see what he'd come up with for an arsenal. Did I forget to mention that he made the first Army rifle team, has the "President's Hundred" patch, and makes the first page of the results when he goes to the national matches? Though I think I'd rather have a photo of a mountain lion (as long as it leaves the rest of the local inhabitants alone).
I'm still waiting to see what my schedule will be like. I might end up just driving over during the week when the color might be good just on my own. I'd rather shoot with you guys, but the stars might not align properly for it.
